Kunming World Expo Park is the site of the Kunming World Horticultural Exposition in 1999. It covers an area of about 218 hectares and has a vegetation coverage rate of 76.7. Among them, there are 120 hectares of dense bushes on gentle slopes, and the water surface accounts for 10% to 15%. The overall planning of the park is based on the mountain, integrating the local characteristics of various provinces, regions, and cities across the country and 95 national-style garden horticulture products, courtyard architecture and scientific and technological achievements in one garden, reflecting the theme of the times of "man and nature, harmonious development". A grand view garden with "Yunnan characteristics, Chinese style, and world-class. After the World Expo, the Yunnan Provincial Government realized the corporate operation of the Expo Park with the innovative idea of "no closed exhibition", and successfully established a national 5A-level tourist attraction in 2016.

After the strategic reorganization of the Yunnan World Expo Tourism Group by OCT Group in 2017, after precise planning and repeated demonstrations by many experts, the Expo Park renovation and upgrading project will officially start construction in 2020. With the starting point of "innovating and improving the quality of 5A scenic spot, continuing the context of the World Expo, and inheriting the spirit of the World Expo", the development idea of "the city is prosperous together, and the host and guest are shared, and the two-way simultaneous development" is integrated to create a horticultural benchmark with Chinese style and spring city characteristics. The core is ecological protection, horticultural expo, horticultural inheritance and horticultural education, taking into account cultural tourism experience and leisure and vacation functions, the innovative experience destination of world horticultural tourism, which shows biodiversity and inherits the cultural genes of the Expo, polishs the gold-lettered signboard of the 5A scenic spot of the Expo Park.

On the basis of the original core resources of "one, two exhibition areas, five pavilions and seven gardens", the Expo Park has gradually constructed a development model of "external linkage development and internal benign interactive growth", forming a spatial structure of "one corridor, two rings, one core with five hearts", and creating eight functional zones and two ring corridors. Planning to upgrade the core products such as Garden Avenue, Tourist Service Center, Bamboo Culture and Art Experience Park, China Splendid Garden, Man and Nature Pavilion, Happy Forest, Science and Technology Museum, International Outdoor Exhibition Area, China Landscape Artistic Conception Experience Park, Ecological Greenway Ring Gallery, Sightseeing Train Ring Gallery and so on.

With the smooth progress of the upgrading and renovation project of the Expo Park, the new Expo Park is showing its unique ecological value with a new look. While retaining and enhancing the unique historical culture and landscape value of the largest and most original garden and horticulture Grand View Garden in the world, it also further emphasizes the concept of ecological priority and green harmonious development. It has truly realized the compound functional development chain with green as the base and gardening as the soul.
